Over the years, higher levels of bacteria have begun to surface in the River Walk area. The River Walk Watershed Alliance (RWWA), a public-private entity, was organized to provide guidance on how we can all help to improve the water quality in the river. Members of the RWWA include:

The overall goal of the RWWA is to reduce bacteria levels in the River Walk area by 50% over the next several years. We will also work to maintain high water quality in this area. This will be accomplished in part by bringing together interested citizens and business owners and informing them how simple changes in their daily procedures can help to prevent pollution in our river. The RWWA will also reach out to visitors and local residents to help them understand that feeding the animals only creates more waste that gets in the river.
